Alex at Brokenpress Design makes some of the most beautiful and well-crafted furniture I’ve ever seen, and the dude’s the coolest to work with.

I hired Alex in 2018 to fabricate and install three custom bathroom vanities, a floating pot-rack, a huge walnut framed mirror and a round mirror framed in oak, a few shelves, and (at the last minute!) two gorgeous walnut countertop with a sink cutout. All of these were made to highly detailed specifications for the renovation of our 1910 condo, and the designs were vastly improved by Alex’s own stylistic and construction recommendations. He not only fabricated these solid pieces, but alsocarefully and expertly installed all of them. It was a really complex job in many respects, not least because I was supervising the renovation from out of state and it required Alex to come out for multiple site visits. But he came through and made it easy.

Next, I’m going to hire Brokenpress to make us a 12’ dining room table. I can’t wait to work with him again.

This is a long overdue review of a solid walnut standing desk that Brokenpress Design built for me. Simply put, a year later I'm still in love with my desk - it will be a piece that I keep forever.

The design process was simple - I gave Alex a few ideas of what I was looking for, he sent me a sketchup of the desk along with a quote (which was quite reasonable), and several weeks later he delivered the desk. The desk is beautiful, and very well built. On delivery, Alex explained a few of the details in the build and finishing process that help to ensure it will look great for years. In the interim, he sent me pictures of the work in progress to help with the anticipation! I plan to work with them again in the future for another piece for my office.

This is real furniture, built by hand, that will last a lifetime - the kind our parents and grandparents had (only better)!

After becoming frustrated with flimsy Ikea furniture, we decided to invest in a wood credenza that would last a lifetime. To our dismay, none of the popular mid-range "Instagram-influencer" stores (West Elm, etc.) carried real wood furniture. After looking at the higher-end places that use real wood (Room & Board), we came across Brokenpress Design + Fabrication and realized we could have Alex design us custom piece of furniture that would be made locally, crafted by a person with a face, and priced competitively. Alex made us a beautiful walnut credenza, and we were so happy with it that we had him make us a matching end table and entry bench. I can't recommend Brokenpress's work highly enough; we will never purchase wood furniture anywhere else.

Throughout the process, and while navigating lengthy supply chain delays, they were communicative and kept us updated on progress. Alex designed and made me a stereo / vinyl storage credenza. He customized the piece to the size of my stereo and my vinyl collection. His work is SO beautifully built.

I liked Brokenpress's work and care so much that i asked Alex to design a second credenza with center storage drawers, since I had fewer components.

I recently had a media credenza built for my stereo equipment. I had shopped around for a few months but could never find apiece that I liked that suited my needs. Finally I decided to have one custom built and I went with Brokenpress Design.

Brokenpress came to my house to take measurements, to ask me how I was going to use the piece, how much cord management I needed, what finish I wanted, etc. A few weeks later, the finished piece was delivered…and it’s perfect. The build quality is top notch and it is just beautiful! Now my hi-fi gear has a proper home and my living room has a great focal point. I’m one very happy customer!

Excellent craftsmanship. We’ve had Brokenpress design quite a few pieces (dining bench, audio credenza, walnut mantlepiece, built in shelves) and not only do they look fantastic, Alex’s input and tweaks helped really make the pieces perfect. Each project has been made better by his knowledge and experience.

If you’re into audio gear or a vinyl collector, you know how much a pain it is to find something to hold you collection that didn’t come flat packed from Sweden (not that there’s anything wrong with that,) but at a certain point, you want to have it made just how you like, right? At least, I did. And that’s what got us started. My audio credenza holds my stereo, and roughly 300 LPs while looking beautiful and one of a kind. And , it won’t need to be replaced anytime soon. Every time we have people over, they always ohh & ahh over all the pieces that we are lucky enough to have.

Alex is passionate about his work and craft and very client-oriented. My wife and I needed nightstands for our bedroom, and because of the master bedroom layout, required them in two different sizes that aren't always available from stores. Just as critical, we had our own ideas about the right design in terms of the position of a drawer and open slots for books, etc., which was also hard to find. And we are very picky about design and quality, as we're living in a home we designed and built.

We found Alex online and were immediately drawn to the style of his pieces and so gave him a call. He was very helpful on his initial visit and subsequent contacts as we worked through the design and other details. Alex is quite willing to work with your suggestions and then tweak and improve them, which we appreciated. It's obvious that his interest was in crafting a piece thatwould truly meet our needs and fit in our space and be well made. He even loaned us a special color chart (from his lovely wife, Jen), to help us get the color of the drawer face right.

The finished pieces are everything we had hoped for and look perfect in the bedroom. And considering the quality and thefact that you can get just what you want, Alex's work isn't that expensive.
